Q: How should I measure my stair risers?
A: Most of the stairs do not have risers of the same dimensions. This slight dimensional difference is especially common with first and last step of the stairway. Find the tallest and widest riser and add 1/8 of an inch as safety. We recommend ordering all riser strips with same height and width (i.e. the largest riser dimension), unless you have one or two raisers that are much different than the rest. The price difference is insignificant between stairs of slightly different dimensions, and the ordering process is simplified. Trimming is easy and explained in the video bellow. Ordering exact dimensions for each riser is also an option but can lead to an error. It is always easier to trim length and width but too small a riser strip cannot be expanded.
Q: How to install?
Please see below installation tips that work best for us, but keep in mind that not all stairs are the same and your way can be different than ours and still be as good.
A: Installing our peel-and-stick riser strips is easy. Watch our video below or follow these easy steps.
- Place the strip on each stair riser and make the mark for length trimming. Trim Wallpaper Strip to proper length for each riser.
- Peel off the backing and align the strip with the riser upper edge and apply the strip from the upper edge downwards.
- Press on the strip as you go down. If you get bubbles or creases, peel the strip back off, straighten it out, and continue applying it downwards. When you get to the bottom of the riser, the strip should be just slightly too long. Band extra strip over the edge and cut the extra material with utility knife or in case you don’t have one with our complimentary mini cutter knife. Use the corner crease between the riser and tread for guide the knife.
